Stephen Dyer is a partner with A.T. Kearney and a leader of the Innovation Practice in Asia Pacific. He has extensive industry and consulting experience in the automotive, aerospace, and process industries. As a core member of A.T. Kearney's global automotive practice, Stephen transferred to Shanghai in 2005 after several years with A.T. Kearney's Detroit office.
While in China, Stephen has served both Chinese and multinational automotive and engineered products clients, helping them develop products and strategies, transform their organizations to be more effective, and perform merger and acquisition due diligence. His recognized expertise in new energy automotive topics and the Chinese auto industry makes him a frequently requested media contributor.

- Customer needs assessment, including business model and strategic partnership analysis for electric vehicle/hybrid electric vehicle components suppliers and electric grid utilities
- Design and pilot of a new customer needs definition framework, based on customer "expected outcomes" and refined product concept development processes, for a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer
- Restructuring of product development organization and processes for leading Chinese manufacturer, which enabled transformation to next generation R&D capabilities
- Cost reduction program for multi-national construction equipment company—identified opportunities to achieve and maintain product cost reduction through targeted product design changes, supplier management initiatives, and process and organizational modifications
- Due diligence for acquisition of Chinese luxury car dealership business—identified and quantified key luxury brand car market growth drivers, dealer service trends, and regulatory factors

James was born and raised in China and attended the University of Science and Technology of China. He went to the US after college and earned a PhD in Genetics from the University of California Davis. After completing PostDoc training at Stanford University, he became founding scientist of Mendel Biotechnology and led its business development. China will soon become the largest market for both IT and energy technologies, James has returned to his roots in China because he is passionate about solving big IT and energy problems for China. James is a receipt of the Outstanding Young Scholar Award by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC).

Prof Lin received his BS (Chemical Eng) from the National Taiwan University (1960) and MA and PhD from Columbia University (Chemistry, 1963 & 67). He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School (1987).
He was President of Industrial Technology Research Institute (1988-94), the largest applied R&D institute in Taiwan. During his tenure, ITRI has developed and transferred many technologies including VLSI, notebook pc, tele-communications, polymer composites, and others, forming the base of hi-tech industries in Taiwan. He first served ITRI as General-Director of the Materials Research Labs (1983-88). He served at the National Tsing Hua University (Hsin-chu) at various periods as Dean of Engineering, Professor of Polymer Science, and Professor of IEEM. He was Visiting Professor, National University of Singapore (1996-97) and presently Adjunct Professor of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University (Beijing). He has served as, among others, President of the Asian Pacific Conf. Chem. Eng.; President, Chinese Society of Material Sciences; President, SAE-Taiwan; and was on the Board of Directors of many public organizations and universities. He has received many honors including Award in Technology of the Third World Academy of Sciences (Trieste), Outstanding Achievement Award CIE_USA. He is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, Asia Pacific Academy of Materials, and Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences. He has 17 years industrial experience with the E. I. Du Pont Company (1967-83) in many R&D management capacities and at the Westlake Group as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer (1995-96).
Prof Lin joined HKUST as Vice President for Research and Development and Professor of IEEM in Spring, 1997. Upon retirement in June 2003, he is now on a part-time engagement as Professor IEEM and Senior Advisor to the President.
